Rep. Rashida Tlaib was sworn into office using Thomas Jefferson’s Quran, and Trump’s conservative base fell into a stupidity black hole. Cenk Uygur, Ana Kasparian, John Iadarola, and Nomi Prins, hosts of The Young Turks, break it down.
“The decision by Michigan Democrat Rashida Tlaib to be sworn into the House using a Koran once owned by President Thomas Jefferson was met with fire and fury from internet racists who seem to believe she is an enemy of the state.
Tlaib, the first Palestinian-American women elected to the U.S. House of Representatives, requested the use of the 1734 translation of the holy book — currently housed in the Library of Congress — in lieu of a Bible.
The swearing-in — conducted by Vice President Mike Pence, a devout Christian — did not go over well on Twitter, with some right-wing commenters accusing her of treason and worse.”
