Robert F. Kennedy Jr. talked about his meetings with Fidel Castro during his trips to Cuba. He recalled his conversations with Castro on various subjects, including the assassinations of his relatives, the U.S. attempts to assassinate Castro, and Castro’s interest in scuba diving. Kennedy also mentioned his visit to the Gardens of the Queen, south of Cuba, a massive preserved ocean area that Castro had decided to conserve after a conversation with Jacques Cousteau. Kennedy and his family also spent time on a boat where they embarked on diving adventures, and Castro shared stories of his own diving excursions. Kennedy also tried to persuade Castro to halt the construction of a nuclear power plant by introducing him to alternate power generation methods using waste products from sugar mills. Castro did ultimately cease construction.
