Rucci Announces Tako's Son, His Deeply Personal Debut Album Out August 9th [Music News]

Paying tribute to the father who raised him, rising Los Angeles rapper Rucci announces Tako’s Son, his upcoming debut album. A well-known Inglewood figure of Salvadorian descent, Rucci’s father Tako was recently deported, stranding father and son on two sides of a national border. On the album, Rucci channels his Pops as best he can, relaying life lessons through breakneck bars and tight street stories, laid over hyperactive L.A. production. The tape features recent single “La Bamba,” a Latin-flavored jam with a video recently premiered by The FADER. With appearances from fellow L.A. heavy-hitters like Shoreline MafiaRJMrLAAzChike1TakeJayKalan.frfr, and more, the personally revealing Tako’s Son heads straight for your car stereo on August 9th via Mackk & Company/EMPIRE.

To accompany the announcement of the album, Rucci shares Keep Going,” the album’s emotional closing track. Building upon poignant electric keys, rolling bass, and crisp snares by producer Romo, Rucci reminisces on recent hardships–from the death of his rap partner Sean Mackk to the deportation of his father–before determining that nothing will stop him from pursuing stardom: “Who better? Nobody better, Rucci in this forever.” Premiered by HYPEBEAST, “Keep Going” perfects the propulsive and thought-provoking formula that Rucci has cultivated over the past few years.

Hailed by HYPEBEAST as one of the best new artists of Spring 2019, Rucci is one of L.A.’s most respected and locally popular emcees. Rucci started his career as one half of the duo MackkRucci, alongside childhood friend and fellow rapper Sean Mackk. When Mackk passed away in 2017, Rucci soldiered on in his memory, expanding his following and carrying the torch for his friend on several acclaimed solo tapes. In 2018, Rucci made his way into the national consciousness with El Perro, one of three mixtapes he released last year, which featured the massive local hit Light It Up,” a collaboration with AzChike, racking up over 1 million streams across platforms.
