Getmybuzzup: Tell us a little about yourself?

Maverick: I am a Brooklyn, New York native. A lot of people grew up in the church, I grew up in the church of Motown, R&B Jazz and Philly Soul. My southern parents played music all the time, especially Sam Cooke, and Al Green. I started playing the saxophone at age 11. After hearing the voice of the late great Luther Vandross, I was inspired to sing.

Getmybuzzup: How long have you been in the music industry?

Maverick: I have been in the industry since age 15 when I started playing clubs in New York. I also sang in the army and in 1990 I performed as a saxophonist and background vocalist for various artist including Teddy Pendergrass and Regina Belle.

Getmybuzzup: How did you get started in the first place?

Maverick: I studied sax in Jr High and the famed music school Erasmus Hall High School and continued study at the Naval Academy School of Music.

Getmybuzzup: How would you describe your sound?

Maverick: I’m a Soul and R&B vocalist/songwriter with Jazz influences.

Getmybuzzup: Who are your inspirations in the music industry?

Maverick: Inspired by many great sax players especially Kirk Whalum, trumpeter Freddie Hubbard, and vocally Luther and Jeffrey Osborne.

Getmybuzzup: What are you currently working on?

Maverick: I’m working on my second CD, but I am continually writing and recording.

Getmybuzzup: What is the concept behind your latest project?

Maverick: My desire for my latest project is to top my CD Be My Music. I want to continually improve.

Getmybuzzup: Any plans on touring to promote your latest project?

Maverick: Hopefully 2018 will see me touring England, Japan, and most of Europe when my current CD is completed.

Getmybuzzup: Do you think your music is mostly enjoyed more for the beats or for the lyrical flow and content?

Maverick: I try to write hits and catchy songs and I like to include 1 or 2 socially conscious songs per album.
