Getmybuzzup: Tell us a little about yourself?
Sharmila: Hi, my name is Sharmila and I’m a singer/songwriter. I was born in Amsterdam but grew up in the area of Rotterdam listening to my favorite 80’s and 90’s music.
Getmybuzzup: How long have you been in the music industry?
Sharmila: Quite some time now, over the years I wrote and recorded my songs and these are on my album ‘Sharmila’.
Getmybuzzup: How did you get started in the first place?
Sharmila: In my childhood, I was always busy with music and dancing, I also took dance lessons from the age of 7, performed a few times at several events back then in my teenage years and started writing my songs in my 20’s.
Getmybuzzup: How would you describe your latest self titled “Sharmila”?
Sharmila: It’s a collection of songs I wrote over the years, some pop dance R&B tracks with influences from the 80’s and 90’s.
Getmybuzzup: Who are your inspirations in the music industry?
Sharmila: I always loved artists and performers who did sing and dance.
Getmybuzzup: How do you go about writing a song and what is your process?
Sharmila: Music just pops up in my mind, lyrics along with a melody. It could be anywhere when an idea suddenly pops up.
Getmybuzzup: What is the concept behind your forthcoming project?
Sharmila: My single and 2nd upcoming album ‘DNA Damage’ is a bit related to my other single ‘Respect Your Body’ but goes a bit deeper than that. Both songs are about the integrity of the woman’s body,it’s a very personal song and theme.
Getmybuzzup: Any plans on touring to promote your latest single?
Sharmila: Yes sure, but more after the 2nd album release.
Getmybuzzup: What are must-haves when you’re in the studio working?
Sharmila: Just a good mic, my lyrics in case if I forget when I wrote a new song and maybe some water.
Getmybuzzup: What is the best piece of advice in this business you actually followed?
Sharmila: I didn’t follow any advice.
Getmybuzzup: Will you be collaborating with any other artists in the future?
Sharmila: Currently I’m working on my own project for ‘DNA Damage’ and that’s important to me and something I wanted to do for a long time. You never know what the future holds though for any collaborations.
Getmybuzzup: Do you think your music is mostly enjoyed more for the beats or for the lyrical flow and content?
Sharmila: I hope it will be both, the beats as well as the lyrics. In general, I feel like people don’t pay that much attention to lyrics, I hope that will change.
Getmybuzzup: What area do you need to improve on in regards to your career?
Sharmila: It’s okay as it is. I’m an independent artist and after they caused me some serious ‘DNA Damage’ I’m glad I released my album, single and the 2nd album is coming up.
Getmybuzzup: What’s your all-time favorite song?
Sharmila: Too many from the 80’s and 90′.
Getmybuzzup: What was the last album you listened to?
Sharmila: The song ‘Rock me Amadeus’.
Getmybuzzup: In your opinion who is the most influential and successful artist in your genre today and why?
Sharmila: The meaning of success to me is the freedom to express yourself the way you want, to create music and art you believe in.
Getmybuzzup: Who have been some of your favorite artists that you’ve been able to work with?
Sharmila: Didn’t work with other artists yet, but I opened for O Town last year.
Getmybuzzup: How do you feel about the current state of music?
Sharmila: I feel like it sounds a bit similar and hypnotic, I prefer old school music. Music can be healing and harming as well, just tune in to the right frequency and pay more attention to lyrics.
Getmybuzzup: Any dream award shows you hope to one day play at?
Sharmila: You never know what the future holds.
Getmybuzzup: What is your main goal as far as music?
Sharmila: To tell my story through music, perform at festivals and some great music venues.

Sharmila: It relates most to 80’s and 90’s music.
Getmybuzzup: What separates you from other artists? (What’s makes you different?)

Getmybuzzup: When you’re not in the studio, What do you like to do for fun and relaxation?
Sharmila: Just listening to music, sometimes I attend concerts from other artists, visiting friends, taking walks, see new places.
