Bio:

Ski Mask Jay is a rap artist from Liverpool, United Kingdom. His rap style is very much versatile and performs normally to upbeat instrumentals with a catchy chorus/hook.
Jay only has one song out officially at the moment which is his debut single ‘Grind’ which has been gaining a lot of streams in the few months since its release. Currently, Jay is working on multiple projects and plans on releasing another single very soon. Stay Tuned.

 

Getmybuzzup: Tell us a little about yourself?

Ski Mask Jay: I’m Jay Stage Name ‘Ski Mask Jay’. I am from Liverpool which is in the North West region of the United Kingdom. I can write music and I perform rap, hip-hop, and trap music. I wear a mask because I want people to focus on my lyrics and my music rather than my appearance that’s why I wanted to be incognito no other reason.

 

Getmybuzzup: How did you come up with the name Ski Mask Jay?

Ski Mask Jay: I wanted to wear a mask to be incognito, so it was a process of elimination really.. Balaclava Jay, Bandana Jay, Mask Jay, ahh Ski Mask Jay!

 

Getmybuzzup: How long have you been in the music industry?

Ski Mask Jay: I’ve been involved in music for about 10 years but have not taken it seriously. Was doing freestyles and unofficial remixes mostly. I had songs on Soundcloud and what not then I decided to give myself a name and go mainstream. I decided to release a song which was my debut single ‘Grind’ which was released 4th June 2020.

 

Getmybuzzup: How did you get started in the music business in the first place?

Ski Mask Jay: Well to answer that question I need to go back 10 years ago to the time when I was in school. I used to love to write poems and write short stories and over time those poems turned into rap. Then you end up finding and surrounding yourself with people with the same interests and then I began writing music and recording songs.

Getmybuzzup: How would you describe your latest single “Grind”?

Ski Mask Jay: My latest single ‘Grind’ is a song about setting goals, striving for them, achieving them, and how good it feels to do so. Then to change it up I got two features with different rap styles. Originally I had two verses and the hook on the song which was all me and it was totally solo but I didn’t like hearing my voice for the whole duration so I changed the structure.

Getmybuzzup: When can fans expect the visuals for the single?

Ski Mask Jay: I don’t know if there will be a video for the song ‘Grind’ as I’m in the United Kingdom and the other artists are out in the states and due to the current situation, the worlds in we will have to see what happens. But I do plan on visuals for my upcoming songs.

 

Getmybuzzup: What’s it like growing up in Liverpool?

Ski Mask Jay: Growing up in Liverpool was not bad, great city, great nightclubs, and party scene. I don’t believe it to be any different to anywhere else in the United Kingdom, to be honest. But living in the same city and supporting the best football team in the world is great though.

 

Getmybuzzup: Who are your inspirations in the music industry?

Ski Mask Jay: I like Trippie Redd and Post Malone. One day I’d like to be able to sing like Post Malone.

 

Getmybuzzup: How do you go about writing a song and what is your process?

Ski Mask Jay: Getting my self a decent instrumental I feel a particular mood or vibe from. Then set a theme and then finding myself in a position where I can relate or reminisce on a event in my life to that vibe. Then tell the story.

 

Getmybuzzup: What is the concept behind your forthcoming project if working on one?

Ski Mask Jay: The concept behind my upcoming project to tell my story and give the listener an image of what it is to be flexing, partying and living that life.

 

Getmybuzzup: Any plans on touring to promote your latest single?

Ski Mask Jay: I plan on having my promoter (Shoutout to PromoSidekick) to just keep pushing my latest single ‘Grind’ and then push my upcoming single for now. Currently, we have over 70k streams which am happy with. I don’t plan on doing any touring at the moment or live shows maybe in the future when I have more songs.

 

Getmybuzzup: What did you buy with your first check off music?

Ski Mask Jay: If you know anything about the music industry you will know you don’t receive money until after the first 3 months of a song or albums release that’s how all the distributors work so I won’t get mine until around October. So I’ll tell you what I do plan on getting a new custom iced out chain and pendant.

 

Getmybuzzup: What are must-haves when your in the studio working?

Ski Mask Jay: Support and encouragement from the guys behind the screen and a decent engineer.

 

Getmybuzzup: What is the best piece of advice in this business you actually followed?

Ski Mask Jay: Don’t be scared of sharing your work and if your different be different.

 

Getmybuzzup: Will you be collaborating with any other artists in the future?

Ski Mask Jay: For my next few songs I plan on doing them solo, although I might do different versions with features. And for my album, I do plan on working with some other artists.

 

Getmybuzzup: What artist have you had the pleasure of working with and what was it like?

Ski Mask Jay: I’ve worked with 3 artists so far. I worked with Inu9 and Florian M who both featured on my single ‘Grind’, I enjoyed working with them as they brought their own rap styles to the song. And I’ve also worked with a female vocalist called Charikleiamari from Greece on a upcoming track which is still in production, she has some amazing and powerful heartfelt vocals, I look forward to showing you that when the time comes.

 

Getmybuzzup: Name an artist(s) that you would love to work with?

Ski Mask Jay: I would love to work Trippie Redd or Post Malone.

 

Getmybuzzup: Do you think your music is mostly enjoyed more for the beats or for the lyrical flow and content?

Ski Mask Jay: I don’t know the feedback I’ve had is the whole song so the beat and the content. And I would like it to be everything rather than one reason.

 

Getmybuzzup: What area do you need to improve on in regards to your career? (Example: Better production, Delivery, Stage presence, etc..)

Ski Mask Jay: I feel I need to learn to sing better, so I can be much better at doing chorus and hooks.

 

Getmybuzzup: What’s your all-time favorite song?

Ski Mask Jay: That is a hard question to answer. I love a lot of songs I would have to say something like 2 Pac ‘Changes’.

 

Getmybuzzup: What was the last album you listened to?

Ski Mask Jay: Drakes ‘Dark Lane Demo Tapes’.

 

Getmybuzzup: Your favorite artist of all time and why?

Ski Mask Jay: Another hard question, It’s hard to single out just an individual. I would have to say for old times sake, Eminem. Although I’ve not been a fan of every song he has done he never fails to produce and make good music and he is a legend. He sticks to the advice I was given never be scared of sharing your idea or your work which makes people love him or hate him.

 

Getmybuzzup: Whose your fav five artists right now?

Ski Mask Jay: Trippie Redd, Post Malone, YG, Drake, and Rick Ross.

 

Getmybuzzup: In your opinion who is the most influential and successful artist in your genre today and why?

Ski Mask Jay: Well my music can fall into two or three genres being Hip-hop, Rap, or Trap. If we were to say Hip-hop and Rap I would say ‘Eminem’ and that’s because of his willingness to not be afraid of expressing himself also making sure he is different and controversial with his lyrics and music videos. Also having Dr. Dre as his producer. Then as for the Trap genre, I would say ‘Drake’ because he is not afraid to be different, he also has an amazing team behind him of producers and engineers.

 

Getmybuzzup: Who have been some of your favorite artists that you’ve been able to work with?

Ski Mask Jay: I have not been able to work with any of my favorite artists, yet but I do hope in the future I do get the opportunity to do so.

 

Getmybuzzup: How do you feel about the current state of music?

Ski Mask Jay: I think music is constantly evolving and it always will. I do think there is a lot of unrecognized talent both indie and underground that really do deserve exposure and if I ever became a ‘known’ artist I would do my best to handpick some of these people and show them the spotlight.

 

Getmybuzzup: Any dream award shows you hope to one day play at?

Ski Mask Jay: Maybe the Grammy’s.

 

Getmybuzzup: What is your main goal as far as music?

Ski Mask Jay: I would just like to be able to release music to a appreciative fan base that understand me and my music and my vision so I can keep doing what I enjoy and that’s making the music.

 

Getmybuzzup: Who would you say your music relates to the most?

Ski Mask Jay: I would say my music relates to the youth generation to about 30+ well that’s what my stats are telling me.

 

Getmybuzzup: What separates you from other artists? (What’s makes you different?)

Ski Mask Jay: I don’t know maybe that I’m incognito.

 

Getmybuzzup: When you’re not in the studio, What do you like to do for fun and relaxation?

Ski Mask Jay: I like to play computer games and exercise.

 

Getmybuzzup: If you could work with any producer who would it be?

Ski Mask Jay: I would like to work with London On Da Track.

 

Getmybuzzup: What’s the biggest highlight of your career thus far?

Ski Mask Jay: Just the attention I’ve gained from my single ‘Grind’ it makes me very optimistic about releasing more songs.

 

Getmybuzzup: What is your dream venue to perform at?

Ski Mask Jay: I would love to play at the 02 Arena in London.

 

Getmybuzzup: What’s the name of the last book you read and by whom?

Ski Mask Jay: I don’t read books.

 

Getmybuzzup: What’s your favorite sports team and why?

Ski Mask Jay: Liverpool Football Club, why not they are the best and won the European Champions League, Club World Cup, and Recently the Premier League. They have brilliant chemistry as a team and we have some brilliant players.

 

Getmybuzzup: Who’s your favorite actor or actress and their best movie?

Ski Mask Jay: My favorite actor would have to be ‘Al Pacino’ and his best movie that’s a hard one to decide its either ‘Scarface’ or ‘Godfather’.

 

Getmybuzzup: Name someone famous who inspires you and why?

Ski Mask Jay: ‘Drake’ he inspires me because of his confidence and his ability to get things done, he believes in himself and his goals. And he makes me believe that anything is possible because when you look at the story of ‘Drake’ he was making no money on tv and then he started the music and became what he is today which is truly inspiring.

 

Getmybuzzup: What can we expect from you in the future?

Ski Mask Jay: More songs, catchy feel-good vibes, but I do promise in a few songs I’ll show a more emotional side to myself. I’m hoping to show more of myself and who I am through music.
