Porsha Monique sits down with actress, singer & performer Angela Birchett to discuss her upcoming role in Kirk Franklin’s “A Gospel Christmas” premiering on Saturday, December 4th at 8pm ET/7c on Lifetime.
Angela Birchett is a dynamic stage and concert vocalist, a seasoned actor, and an accomplished recording artist, hailing from Detroit, Michigan. Growing up, Angela developed her singing talents and love of music through performing at her church and singing with her sisters. She became the youngest member of the Detroit Symphony Civic Orchestra when she joined at age 12 as a percussionist and began her theater career at age 14. Angela attended Kentucky State University where she double majored in Music Education and Vocal Performance and regularly performed on campus in productions and concerts.
Angela made her Broadway debut in the 2015 Tony Award-winning revival of The Color Purple and has several regional and national touring credits including The Color Purple’s first national tour, Dreamgirls as Effie White, Once On This Island as Asaka, Smokey Joe’s Café as BJ, and Hairspray national tour as Motormouth. Additional theater credits include Rent and Ain’t Misbehavin.
Angela soon crossed over into television, appearing on various shows including “Kevin Can Wait” (CBS) and “The Blindspot” (NBC). In 2020, Angela made her feature-length debut in The Clark Sisters: First Ladies of Gospel (Lifetime) where she stepped into the vocal box of Jacky Clark Chisholm. She can next be seen in Kirk Franklin’s A Gospel Christmas, premiering on December 4th as part of Lifetime’s “It’s a Wonderful Lifetime” Countdown to Christmas line-up.
