Starlito & Don Trip – “Yeah 5x” [Video]

Starlito & Don Trip

By Jack Barnes

Joining forces once again for another classic, Don Trip and Starlito recently dropped Step Brothers THREE, the latest chapter in their acclaimed series. Snagging the #1 spot on the iTunes Rap Chart for two days straight, at #2 overall only beaten out by Ed Sheeran, Starlito and Don Trip return to the roots of their series with the visual for “Yeah 5x“. The follow up to the thought-provoking “Good Cop, Bad Cop” visual, “Yeah 5x” finds Lito and Trip in a treehouse, rocking a Chewbacca mask, hulk hands, and of course, Prestige Worldwide t-shirts. Enjoy this video stream below after the jump.

Inspired after reading this interview with Step Brothers costume designer Susan Matheson, Starlito dove into a 3-hour long Amazon wormhole searching for props. Drawing inspiration from the most unlikely of sources, Starlito discovered the perfect props and “Yeah 5x” began to take shape. “Yeah 5x” is the perfect soundtrack for flossin’ on the “Dereks in your life, waiting to get punched out of a treehouse.

Though they are at their strongest when working together, Don Trip and Starlito are beloved solo artists in their own right. A pithy, laidback emcee with a cult following and critical acclaim from the likes of Pitchfork, NOISEY, Passion Of The Weiss and others, Starlito’s world-weary rhymes are sweetened with a poetic wisdom and a strong sense of humor. Hailing from Memphis, Don Trip is an incendiary wordsmith with a talent for expressing raw emotion. He earned solo success with the Cee-Lo Green cosigned “Letter To My Son,” a heartbreaking tale about his estrangement from his infant child. Introduced to one another by popular Memphis rapper Yo Gotti, Trip and Lito caught lightning in a bottle with Step Brothers, which Pitchfork listed at #41 in their list of the 50 Best Mixtapes of the Millennium. The duo repeated their success with 2013’s Step Brothers Two, a critically acclaimed, Billboard-charting album boasting the cult hit “Caesar & Brutus,” and several other quality visuals that combined for over 10 million YouTube views. Starlito and Don Trip are live at SXSW this week and catch them this Spring as they continue on the Karate In the Garage Tour, resuming March 23rd in Detroit, with support from Scotty ATL and Red Dot.
