Getmybuzzup: Tell us a little about yourself?
STBTheDon: Well I’m STBTheDon (A.K.A) D.O.N I’m an artist out of Kansas City born and raised in Wyandotte County, I always loved music and rhythms, I started playing the drums at two years old and continued till I was a sophomore year of high school. I played a few sports like basketball and football into my middle school and high school years but turned to collecting, trading, and selling Jordan’s. I went to college for a semester but came back home cause it wasn’t for me and I’d rather be broke and hustle at home than be in another state, so I came home starting working, hustling, and writing music to keep me balanced when I felt I had no one to talk to. I recorded my 1st song in 2018 but hated it because I felt my voice pitch was too high but all my inner circle urged me to release it so I put it out in Soundcloud and this platform called Reverb Nation and gave up on the song. About two or three weeks later I got a call from a music group in New York saying they like my sound and I didn’t believe it being naive and being a fresh twenty years old. Life went on for a year and it had plenty of downs and ups then that same music group from New York called me again the first month of 2020 and said they believed in the dream and here we are.
Getmybuzzup: How did you come up with the name STBTheDon?
STBTheDon: Well the acronym (STB) means “Secure the bag” and one of my brothers came up with the name when we were going through hard times as a motto for use to live by, then it became a name for all of us when we wanted to make music together but our schedules didn’t work so when I got really serious I asked my brother could I use it and add it to D.O.N and he said yea and we put it all together.
Getmybuzzup: How long have you been in the music industry?
STBTheDon: Honestly only a year now, my anniversary for my 1st real song was June 25th so I’m just blessed really to have accomplished so much.
Getmybuzzup: How did you get started in the first place?
STBTheDon: I started rapping and writing music because of my brother he was always rapping and had the new underground, unreleased, and industry music from the smallest artist to the biggest, and he told me one day when we were freestyling to start taking making song serious cause I was kind of good at it.
Getmybuzzup: Tell us about your forthcoming project “Project Home”?
STBTheDon: Yes, Project Home will be dropping July 9th and it’s an old project from when I started becoming serious that we decided to go in a remake completely from scratch with my new refined sound. it’s definitely one of my favorite projects and I’m happy I can share it with you guys and all my fans.
Getmybuzzup: What features if any can we expect off the forthcoming project?
STBTheDon: On this project no features because this tape describes my hardships and struggles on the road to where I am now.
Getmybuzzup: Any plans on touring to promote your music now with the COVID restrictions being lifted in most states?
STBTheDon: Yea, me and my team have been waiting so we could start to get on the road and network with new artists and producers from state to state.
Getmybuzzup: How difficult was it with the COVID restrictions to promote your music?
STBTheDon: Actually, it made it a lot easier to promote because everyone was stuck inside and on their phones. it’s kind of made it easier to for new listeners and old ones to see everything we were doing and to stay following.
Getmybuzzup: What tactics have you used to take advantage of the COVID restrictions in order to continue pushing your likeness forward?
STBTheDon: The biggest one is learning the art of timing it literally means everything in this business, you can have the perfect song with the most relatable and relevant topic but if you drop it at the wrong time it won’t be received by the people when they wanted it.
Getmybuzzup: Who are your inspirations in the music industry?
STBTheDon: My inspirations are Lil Wayne, Drake, Tory Lanez, Future, and 21 Savage. All these artists taught me a different musicality that I wanted to use with the musical knowledge I had and make a sound of my own
Getmybuzzup: How do you go about writing a song and what is your process?
STBTheDon: I honestly don’t a Strong 90% of my music I don’t write I do it of the energy because I’m with my producer when the beat is made, seven percent of the other songs I make I only write the chorus and I’ll freestyle the verses when I get to the studio but when I’m going through some deep personal issues like loss or lines being crossed that three percent comes into play.
Getmybuzzup: What did you buy with your first check-off music?
STBTheDon: I didn’t buy anything I sent it to my mom for her pocket than some other money for my bills she’s like my accountant too.
Getmybuzzup: What are must-haves when you’re in the studio working?
STBTheDon: I gotta have my backpack everything I need is in it from my charger to my smoke and my Ugg slides I take it with me everywhere in general but it’s my must-have in a studio definitely.
Getmybuzzup: What is the best piece of advice in this business you actually followed?
STBTheDon: The best advice I’ve received was to have an owner’s mentality, think about how everything will affect you a year from now and not just today.
Getmybuzzup: Will you be collaborating with any other artists in the future?
STBTheDon: Definitely, I have a few artists I want to lock in with and make some real hits.
Getmybuzzup: Do you think your music is mostly enjoyed more for the beats or for the musical flow and content?
STBTheDon: I feel it’s a combination, I pride myself on talking about what’s going on with me and my issues just like any other artist just doing it my own way and the instrumentation I use in the songs I just try and match with my mood.
Getmybuzzup: What area do you need to improve on in regards to your career?
STBTheDon: For me greatness has no time limit so I wanna continue to improve on every facet of my game until the greats notice me then I’ll know I’m really doing something that’s bigger than me.

Getmybuzzup: What separates you from other artists?
STBTheDon: My sound I’d say for sure, normally you get a comparison like “you sound like him” or “you rap like so and so” but I haven’t got it everyone tells me I sound like myself with is extremely unique in this day and age.
Getmybuzzup: When you’re not in the studio, what do you like to do for fun and relaxation?

STBTheDon: Call and respond and bringing that energy, those two things are big so you can create an unforgettable experience. Also physically reaching out and touching the people is major makes them feel closer to you.
Getmybuzzup: When performing live and the crowd is singing how does that energy make you feel?
