Building school pride and an inspirational start of the school year will be a very special presentation and reveal of over $35,000 worth of musical instruments to the students of Portland-area David Douglas School District’s Ron Russell Middle School, featuring a surprise performance by popular Portland-based, by-way-of-Wasila, Alaska, rock band, Portugal. The Man.  Working in partnership with The Mr. Holland’s Opus Foundation (MHOF), StubHub will award nearly 900 students and staff who will be on hand, including the school’s band (150 students), choir (160 students) and orchestra (110 students). Presentations will offer words of praise and inspiration to the students and faculty for the well-deserved donation to the school and the music teachers, Tawnya Garcia and Tammy Culp, to wrap up the first week of school and get the 2015-2016 school year off to an inspirational and empowering start for the students and staff.

Earlier this year, StubHub announced a commitment to putting $1 million of musical instruments into at-risk public school music education programs as part of its Next Stage Social Good program dedicated to supporting youth music education.  In partnership with artists and brands, StubHub will identify up to 30 schools over ten markets to make the donation with the support of benefit partner MHOF through 2015.
