Swiff Talks Latest Single, Writing Process & More [Interview]

Swiff

Getmybuzzup: How long have you been in the music industry?

Swiff: In the Industry? Workin? Just over a year, I’ve been consistent on my goals working every day whether it’s networking, getting the bag, or recording we always up to something.

Getmybuzzup: How did you get started in the first place?

Swiff: I met some producers when I went to Toronto on a trip, and they sent me a few beats to kinda f*ck around on to see how I sound and when I sent it back they went crazy bro that’s when I knew I had to pursue this lifestyle as hard as I can.
Getmybuzzup: How would you describe your latest single?

Swiff: “Penthouse” is a vibe, it’s chill as f*ck with them guitars and sh*t it just sounds laid back, then the verse drops and the bass kicks and that sh*t pounds bro. Switch up with the chorus and make it slow, slow down the beat, slow down the mood, then pick it up in the 2nd verse again. I never made a song like ‘Penthouse’ before I made it I was on my Juice Wrld shit that night.

Getmybuzzup: Who are your inspirations in the music industry?

Swiff: Inspirations? I was listening to Eminem when I was just born cause my moms the biggest Stan I ever met so he is gonna be my #1 for sure like nobody did it like him, white boy from Detroit no money no nothing and he made it happen. That’s the kinda shit I see and it makes me want this that much more knowing that it could happen anytime, to any person. Em the goat.

Getmybuzzup: How do you go about writing a song and what is your process?

Swiff: I’m starting with a beat listen to the beat, if I’m feeling the beat I’ll know instantly if I’m not feeling it I know even faster. The beat needs to bop, don’t matter if it’s west coast banger or some softer stuff if I’m feeling the beat imma kill it.

Getmybuzzup: What is the concept behind your forthcoming project?

Swiff: My new project is focused around showing what I can do lyric wise and flow, I got bangers on there club bangers, and I got some songs you put on when ur parents come around.

Getmybuzzup: Any plans on touring to promote your latest single?

Swiff: Yea I’ve been doing shows lately, nothing crazy but I’m gonna be opening up for artists soon to promote my project.

Getmybuzzup: What did you buy with your first check off music?

Swiff: I bought 2 studio sessions I wasn’t playing when I got a cheque I wanted to invest it back into myself quick.

Getmybuzzup: What are must-haves when you’re in the studio working?

Swiff: Backwoods, good weed, good people with vibes, need a producer in there too cook up, and as long as we got Uber eats we good on food.

Getmybuzzup: What is the best piece of advice in this business you actually followed?

Swiff: Consistency. I’ve heard from everyone that being consistent and working at it every day is the only thing that will help you and make you better. I write every day it might be throwaway sh*t but I keep writing.

Getmybuzzup: Will you be collaborating with any other artists on this forthcoming project or in the future?

Swiff: Yea, I got a song I been working on with Pressa that song boutta be done, then we got some with Bryan Ghee and I worked with shoreline mafia down in LA that song a bop.

Getmybuzzup: Do you think your music is mostly enjoyed more for the beats or for the lyrical flow and content?

Swiff: I think it’s equal beats and lyrical flow, I can ride beats, hit the pockets on beats to make my words stand out, but I Make sure my beats bang. They gotta have that hard bass banging.

Getmybuzzup: What area do you need to improve on in regards to your career? (Example: Better production, Delivery, Stage presence, etc..)

Swiff: My delivery I gotta work on, I gotta know when to use the right tone of voice and when emotion I’m trying to get out while I’m makin the song so people can feel it while they listen.

Getmybuzzup: What’s your all-time favorite song?

Swiff: I grew up on Eminem listening to him my whole childhood, my all time favorite song by him is that’s all she wrote with T.I., he’s got crazy flow on there and he talks about love but not the love everyone else talks about. It’s a real vibe song.

Getmybuzzup: What was the last album you listened to?

Swiff: Last album was prestige Pressa, I’ve been a press fan for years this album is full of bangers.

Getmybuzzup: In your opinion who is the most influential and successful artist in your genre today and why?

Swiff: Drake, he changed the game for all of Canada, and the whole world. He was just a kid from the 6 at one point with a regular life like everyone else. He built an empire, anything he puts out makes a wave on the game.

Getmybuzzup: Who have been some of your favorite artists that you’ve been able to work with?

Swiff: Probably Shoreline, they bring that energy to a song that I look for; they all about the hard West Coast bass songs so our styles are very similar.

Getmybuzzup: How do you feel about the current state of music?

Swiff: I like it, you can blow up off of SoundCloud a completely free music service.
