Getmybuzzup: Tell us a little about yourself?
Sy: I was born in Philadelphia and raised in Houston, is a published author, freelance writer, songwriter as well as entrepreneur. As a child she escaped through books and reading was one of her favorite things to do. She wrote her first song at seven years old and she also won many awards performing poetry. Seeing the impact words, hers and others, had on people she knew writing was something she wanted to be heavily involved in.
Getmybuzzup: How long have you been in the music industry?
Sy: 10 plus years
Getmybuzzup: How did you get started in the first place?
Sy: I started writing songs when I was seven years old and I just stuck with it over the years and it became my career.
Getmybuzzup: How would you describe your sound?
Sy: Similar to Whitney Houston and Aaliyah.
Getmybuzzup: Who are your inspirations in the music industry?
Sy: Whitney Houston, Gladys Knight, & more from their generation.
Getmybuzzup: Your latest track “Get Out Of My Dreams” is this part of a forthcoming project?
Sy: No it was originally made strictly for Star on Fox but it was never submitted so it got released instead.
Getmybuzzup: What are you currently working on?
Sy: More music and touring with Collie Buddz.
Getmybuzzup: What is the concept behind your latest project?
Sy: “Get Out Of My Dreams” sheds light on a relationship of want and lust, as many cases prove to be, when a person is already committed but finds him or herself in want and need of someone else. With a play on words, and sounds that set the vibe for an earful of powerful lyrics; the song will definitely take you on a journey.
Getmybuzzup: Any plans on touring to promote your latest project?
Sy: I may sing it at an upcoming show, you have to be there to see it.
Getmybuzzup: What did you buy with your first check off music?
Sy: Hmmm, I can’t even remember at this point it was so long ago.
Getmybuzzup: What is the best piece of advice in this business you actually followed?
Sy: Stay focused and consistent.
Getmybuzzup: Will you be collaborating with any other artists on this project or in the future?
Sy: Definitely in the future and on more music, also writing for other artist.
Getmybuzzup: Do you think your music is mostly enjoyed more for the beats or for the lyrical flow and content?
Sy: Both I hope since I’m a singer.
Getmybuzzup: What area do you need to improve on in regards to your career? (Example: Better production, Delivery, Stage presence, etc..)
Sy: Probably building my brand more.
Getmybuzzup: In your opinion who is the most influential and successful artist in your genre today and why?
Sy: Thats hard to say, there are a lot of successful artist but influential can be hard to define.
Getmybuzzup: How do you feel about the current state of music?
Sy: I think its moving forward.
Getmybuzzup: What is your main goal as far as music?
Sy: To make great music and write for as many artist as possible.
Getmybuzzup: Who would you say your music relates to the most?
Sy: It depends on the song and what it caters too.
Getmybuzzup: What separates you from other artists? (What’s makes you different?)
Sy: There is only one Sy that sounds and looks like me, so yea I’m unique and I’m me.
Getmybuzzup: When your not in the studio, What do you like to do for fun and relaxation?
Sy: Spend time with family, enjoy my sleep, and write.
Getmybuzzup: When performing live what are some of the things you do to get the crowd involved?
Sy: It depends on the show and where we are, some crowds are already pumped up some you have to give them a little motivation.
Getmybuzzup: What can we expect from you in the future?
Sy: More music and more books!
