Tasha The Amazon
By Jack Barnes
Lighting the streets of Toronto ablaze with her abrasive, industrial rap sound, Tasha The Amazon is an uncommonly intense artist. Showing off her fierce charisma under flashing lights, Tasha shines in “Die Every Day,” her latest video. Premiered by MILK, the new video perfectly complements the ethereal production, and the existential nature of Tasha’s lyrics, as the visage of the critically acclaimed emcee literally transforms into gold: “I know that death is certain/Your show will catch a curtain/This goes for every person.” “Die Every Day” is the title track from Tasha’s recent album Die Every Day, which earned a nomination for Rap Recording of the Year in the 2016 Juno Awards. Canada’s biggest music award show, the Juno Awards placed her alongside fellow nominees Drake, Tory Lanez, Belly, and Jazz Cartier and recognized Die Every Day as one of the five best rap albums in the country. Famous in Toronto for her energetic stage performances and her warehouse parties notorious for getting shut down by the police, Tasha began to grow a following in the U.S. with her debut solo project, FiDiYootDem. Prior to the release of Die Another Day, Tasha received praise from publications such as Billboard, FADER, and Hypetrak for singles like “Picasso Leaning” and the Pigeons & Planes-premiered “Prayer.” A recent signee to the Windish Agency, now under the umbrella of Paradigm Talent Agency, Tasha took her frenetic live show on the road, touring Europe, the United States, and Mexico earlier this year.
