Tasha The Amazon Reflects on Her Rise With the Twinkling “Not The Same” Single

Tasha The Amazon is a textbook iconoclast, blazing her own path through Canada’s music industry with undeniable talent and a fierce demeanor. Kicking back atop twinkling keys and rubbery bass, Tasha reflects on her climb to stardom on Not The Same,” her new single. Produced by Arthur McArthur (Rick Ross, Wiz Khalifa, Pusha T), “Not The Same” finds Tasha adapting her mantra-like melodies to the track’s summery vibe, thinking back to her couch-surfing past in Toronto and comparing it to her globe-trotting life as a boundary-pushing rapper. Though the production is less punishing than some of the warehouse-friendly tracks on her last album Die Every DayTasha doesn’t lose her sneering attitude, looking down her nose on those who lack the work ethic to overcome the odds she faced. “Not The Same” is the latest release from Black MoonTasha’s upcoming album, following the bohemian, NYLON-premiered video for That Ain’t You.Enjoy this audio stream below after the jump and please share this with friends.

A Toronto native of Jamaican and German descent, Tasha The Amazon made her mark on her city’s music scene with her raucous stage performances and with warehouse parties notorious for getting shut down by the police. In late 2016, Tasha broke through with Die Every Day, which earned the rapper praise from Billboard, FADER and Pigeons & Planesas well as a nomination at The JUNO Awards, Canada’s biggest music awards, for Rap Recording of the Year. Tasha spent 2018 holed up in the studio, developing a cohesive and powerful new project and releasing her song “Intercontinental,” which Spotify chose for its Fresh Finds and Women of Fresh Finds playlists. In Summer 2018, Issa Rae selected Tasha’s “All Black” for the soundtrack for Season 3 of her HBO series Insecure. Ready to reveal the fruit of her labors, Tasha continues on the path to her sophomore album Black Moon, due later this summer. Earlier this year, Tasha shared Can’t Remember,” a melodic and introspective single, premiered by HipHopDX.
