Getmybuzzup: How long have you been in the music industry?

Tey Yaniis: I’ve been professionally recording since the age of 16 so ive been in the music industry for a while perfecting my craft, releasing music and performing.

Getmybuzzup: How did you first get started in the music?

Tey Yaniis: My first introduction to music was when I was a child. I started out playing live instruments such as the Trumpet and Violin.
When I got a bit older the programs were not available as electives in school so I turned to writing poetry pieces, and developed a niche for hip-hop.

Getmybuzzup: How would you describe your sound?

Tey Yaniis: I would describe my sound as soulful hip-hop mixed in with funk, jazz and other genres. Something that the grown and sexy will enjoy with my twist to it. All in all i just call “Vibe” Music.

Getmybuzzup: Who are your inspirations in the music industry?

Tey Yaniis: My inspiration comes from being creative and letting my vision manifest so artist can be themselves and create their lanes without being judged. Being free in their passion. I want to bring that sound back to the forefront of just good vibes and smooth music.

Getmybuzzup: What are you currently working on?

Tey Yaniis: Currently I’m promoting my debut album “The Soul Jones Collection” which is currently available on all digital retailers all over the world. I have a single entitled “My Coffee Brown” which is out now and doing very well. My Coffee Brown reached #36 on digital radio trackers top 100 independent charts, aswell as being the #1 played song on Santa Clara University radio station. There are plans for a follow up for “The Soul Jones Collection” that are in the works right now as well.

Getmybuzzup: What is the concept behind your latest project?

Tey Yaniis: The concept for this album was to express love through good neo-soul music from an emcee standpoint. The name of the album is “The Soul Jones Collection” and the word Jones was a term that jazz musicians used in the 50’s that meant your addiction is getting the best of you. So for me it was a Jones for good soul music. So I fed into my addiction for a new start and good music.

Getmybuzzup: Any plans on touring to promote your latest project?

Tey Yaniis: Yes I’m looking to do a European tour in 2018 to promote my album and singles, so I’m just putting that together
at the moment. I really love the vibe of the UK and I get major support over there so I’m excited for 2018!

Getmybuzzup: What is the best piece of advice in this business you actually followed?

Tey Yaniis: Be sure to stay persistent, and make sure you go through the proper channels after you create your songs to
receive residuals for the long run.

Getmybuzzup: Will you be collaborating with any other artists on this project or in the future?

Tey Yaniis: I would love to but at the moment I’m just in the studio with my producers to create more beautiful music.

Getmybuzzup: Do you think your music is mostly enjoyed more for the beats or for the lyrical flow and content?

Tey Yaniis: All around both! The music stems from the music that we are missing when instrumentation was so beautiful and
hip hop lyrics and cadence was so dope over it all.

Getmybuzzup: What area do you need to improve on in regards to your career? (Example: Better production, Delivery, Stage presence, etc..)

Tey Yaniis: Building a solid team who believes in my vision with the same work ethic to change the face of music.

Getmybuzzup: What’s your all-time favorite song?

Tey Yaniis: Either Sounds of BlacknessOptimistic” or CommonThe Light“.

Getmybuzzup: In your opinion who is the most influential and successful artist in your genre today and why?

Tey Yaniis: I would have to say Raphael Saadiq. He’s been around for ages and his music is so dope! He’s def one of my favorite artist and producers.

Getmybuzzup: Who have been some of your favorite artists that you’ve been able to work with?

Tey Yaniis: I haven’t worked with some of my favorite artist on a national level but some of my favorite artist are striving
for greatness and they are all on my album “The Soul Jones Collection” like Miss Mouthpeace, Chris Keys, and more.

Getmybuzzup: How do you feel about the current state of music?

Tey Yaniis: I honestly like the state of the creative side of music. The business practices are changing constantly and we as artist need to learn how to adapt to a forever changing industry. Music is in a good place there are alot of great artist; its just that they get over looked for the nonsense that’s out there but there is still good music out there.

Getmybuzzup: Who would you say your music relates to the most?

Tey Yaniis: I would say a mature mindstate individuals no matter what age. If they love good music with uplifiting lyricism then it will resignate with genuine music lovers.

Getmybuzzup: When your not in the studio, What do you like to do for fun and relaxation?

Tey Yaniis: Im a family man. I spend a great deal of time with my beautiful wife and children. I just enjoy lounging with them and just being a great dad.

Getmybuzzup: If you could work with any producer who would it be?

Tey Yaniis: Raphael Saadiq for sure!!!!! Or Robert Glasper. Those two are on my bucket list my friend!

Getmybuzzup: What’s the biggest highlight of your career thus far?

Tey Yaniis: The biggest highlight of my career was having my debut single chart on at #36 out of the top 100! Now if I can get billboard that would send it over the top.

Getmybuzzup: What artist music are you currently a fan of?

Tey Yaniis: Anderson .Paak, Isaiah, The Interent, King, Eric Roberson there’s alot to name but those are my all time favorites right now!!

Getmybuzzup: When performing live what are some of the things you do to get the crowd involved?
