Dr. Anthony Pignataro became a minor celebrity for offering bargain cosmetic surgeries, but his basement room of horrors soon landed him in court. Pignataro was charged with second-degree manslaughter, criminally negligent homicide, second-degree assault, reckless endangerment, and falsifying business records. He accepted a plea deal and was sentenced to six months in jail with five years of probation for criminally negligent homicide.

An arrogant cosmetic surgeon operating out of a basement permanently scars and kills patients, then shocks detectives by attempting to murder a loved one.

Patient Goes Into Cardiac Arrest At Dr. Anthony Pignataro’s Office
On Aug. 25, 1997, first responders were called to the office of Dr. Anthony Pignataro due to a patient in distress. The victim was 26-year-old mother of two Sarah Smith, who was undergoing a breast augmentation when she went into a state of state of cardiac and respiratory arrest. Pignataro was attempting to create an airway for Smith using a coat hanger.

In June 1997, Terri LaMarti underwent a liposuction treatment at the office of Dr. Anthony Pignataro. When she woke up, LaMarti was in excruciating pain, and Pignataro told LaMarti to rest and that he would check in the following morning. After a night of sleep, however, she was in even more pain and was rushed to the hospital.

After Dr. Anthony Pignataro was released from prison, his wife, Debbie Pignataro, complained of tingling and numbness in her arms and legs and trouble walking. No one could determine the cause of her symptoms, however, and she was near the point of paralysis and admitted to the hospital. While there, she was counseled by former victim’s advocate Sharon Simon.
