The Last Artful, Dodgr & Neill Von Tally

By Jack Barnes

Today, quickly rising duo The Last Artful, Dodgr and Neill Von Tally releaseJazz Crimes, the third track from their highly anticipated forthcoming debut album Bone Music.  On the record, Tally infuses jazz elements with a progressive electronic production intensified by Dodgr’s easily distinguishable and unparalleled vocals.  Mass Appeal quoted on Dodgr’s vocals saying, “When you think of some of the greats in hip hop – Biggie, Tupac, Nas, Hov, Slick Rick – aside from their lyrics, flows, and other points on the checklist of a great emcee, each had a recognizable voice…Having a unique sound is the least of The Last Artful, Dodgr’s worries.”  Enjoy this audio stream below after the jump.

Dodgr and Tally are carving out their own unique lane in the music industry with a refreshing sound that is truly inventive.  Jazz Crimes is the final scene from Bone Music.  It depicts Dodgr taking what is hers rightfully and holding nothing back. The music is a collaboration with Volcanic Pinnacles, a Portland based jazz duo, that came to EYRST and recorded a number of tracks and allowed me to sample from those recordings, said Tally.  Dodgr chimed in saying, “Jazz Crimes serves as the end credits to our little movie. If anything, it gives the listener a bit more insight as to what to expect from my solo material — boundless and catchy as fuck.”  “Jazz Crimes” is available as the instant gratification track from Bone Music via iTunes and can also be streamed on Spotify.  The track comes hot on the heels of the release of the psychedelic Pop! Remix by Eastghost which features critically acclaimed DMV rapper Jay IDK.

The Last Artful, Dodgr & Neill Von Tally, a buzzing duo, based in Portland, OR are quickly making noise in the music industry.  With beats and production handled by Von Tally, their music features Dodgr’s unique take on Hip-Hop and R&B. The sonics take listeners on a journey, telling the story of the life of a blue-collar worker, balancing a discordant home life and relationships with life lessons learned along the way. Dodgr’s voice is a threat in every dimension; equipped with memorable melodies, an agile flow, and puckish, often ostentatious wordplay. Previously, Dodgr and Von Tally released a debut EP Fractures in 2015, followed by the Rare Treat EP in early 2016, which was a collaboration with Myke Bogan. This spring, The Last Artful, Dodgr released her solo single “Squadron” to acclaim.   Most recently, the duo released a captivating music video for their buzzed-about song “Jelly Hunt.”  Dodgr’s music has received praise from the likes of Pigeons and Planes, Earmilk, Milk, 2dopeboyz, Uproxx, Beats 1 and more. The Last Artful, Dodgr & Neill Von Tally are currently gearing up for the release of their debut full-length project entitled Bone Music, due for release next month.
