Gayle King reflects on Cicely Tyson’s final interview with her at her hometown church. “That’s a pew that she bought, dedicated to her mother, so whenever she came to church she sat right there in that seat, right next to her mother’s name. And she felt when she sat there, she could feel her mother’s presence,” says King. Elaine Welteroth asks, “What do you hope the world remembers most about Cicely Tyson?” “I think she said it best there Elaine, “I’ve done my best” … She decided that she would take roles that would show the black experience and reflect that black people, like everybody else, are human beings with human feelings.” King continues, “When I asked that last question, when the time comes how would you like us to be remembered? I did not ask it because she was some doddering old lady who was teetering around… She was also talking about things she wanted to do, some directing, she had a couple of projects in mind.”
