“The Talk” hosts discuss Elliot Page explaining why it was “crucial” for him to come out as trans. “It’s so easy to pass judgement on a group,” says guest co-host Marcela Valladolid. “But I challenge people that have a sort of feeling about this to sit and have a conversation, one on one, with a trans person and then try to formulate an opinion. He is doing such a service by putting a face on it.” Elaine Welteroth adds, “It’s so important now, more than ever, for people with this privilege and this platform to put a name and face to the experience of being trans in America.” Amanda Kloots says, “He recognized his privilege of who he is, this celebrity, but to come forward and how important that was, I think that’s an interesting concept. He’s in so much pain, you can hear it, he’s already in a minority group by being a transgender but he’s still recognizing the privilege that he has and the importance of using that privilege for good. I think is a really beautiful statement.”
