Monday, “The Talk” hosts reflect on Martin Luther King, Jr. Day and his daughter, Dr. Bernice King reacting to the recent Capitol riots. Sheryl Underwood says, “It’s an awakening. It’s a reckoning.” Elaine Welteroth adds, “I feel like we cannot move forward and truly reconcile unless we are reckoning with the horrors of our past, you know? And I don’t think we’ve done that as a nation. We haven’t done the collective healing work that we need to do together. Everyone’s so quick to say, let’s unite, let’s move forward, but what about atonement for the past? What about accountability? We can’t talk about unity until we talk about healing the pain and the damage that this country, frankly, was built on. This is who we are.” She adds, “This is the reality a lot of people in this country have faced for a very long time…we need to reconcile with all of that stuff in order to heal and truly move forward.”
