Friday on “The Talk” Laverne Cox opens up about Arkansas becoming the first state to outlaw gender-affirming treatment for trans youth. “A bill that just became a law in Arkansas criminalizes health care professionals who would even recommend or refer a transgender child for gender affirming care. There’s a lot of misinformation about the care that transgender kids are receiving, that I find deeply dehumanizing and objectifying. We shouldn’t be talking about the bodies of children.” Cox adds, “Folks also need to know that we’re not talking about performing surgeries on kids, that’s not happening. We are just talking about puberty blockers that are completely reversible if a child changes their minds. And the bigger issue I think is that the government should not be in the business of making decisions about what we do with our body. Those decisions should be between the child, their parent, and their doctor. The government should not be legislating that.”
