Getmybuzzup: Tell us a little about yourself?

Tone Wiley: I’m a 26yr old local emcee from Philly, trying to make a living doing what I love. I want to be able to connect people through my music, and leave a legacy to my family.

Getmybuzzup: What’s it like growing up in Philly as an artist?

Tone Wiley: It’s cool. There’s a lot of dope artist in the city, but I also have to maneuver slightly different because my sound is different than the typical sound you might hear locally.

Getmybuzzup: How long have you been in the music industry?

Tone Wiley: For about the last 3 years, full time.

Getmybuzzup: How did you get started in the first place?

Tone Wiley: I always say music is like a second religion in my family, because it really is. So, the interest and passion was always there. It really took off when I listened to Biggie‘s “Ready to Die” album. That was the moment when I really knew for sure that I wanted to make music.

Getmybuzzup: How would you describe your sound?

Tone Wiley: I never really knew how to describe it. I guess I’d say “Contemporary” with a perfect mixture of that raw Hip-Hop essence that we all love.

Getmybuzzup: Who are your inspirations in the music industry?

Tone Wiley: Jay Z, Eminem and Nas. Aside from their lyrical ability, they’re Icons who achieved longevity while sticking to their own script.

Getmybuzzup: What are you currently working on?

Tone Wiley: I’m in the very beginning process of a new project.

Getmybuzzup: What is the concept behind your latest project?

Tone Wiley: Lazarus” pretty much described the resurrecting of myself as an artist. Doing everything better, not just with the music itself, but with the business side as well.

Getmybuzzup: Any plans on touring to promote your latest project?

Tone Wiley: Not necessarily touring, but definitely doing some shows.

Getmybuzzup: Who’s your favorite artist from Philly?

Tone Wiley: Black Thought, hands down.

Getmybuzzup: What did you buy with your first check off music?

Tone Wiley: I’d invested most of it back into my brand. Building bigger and stronger with other high power brands.

Getmybuzzup: What is the best piece of advice in this business you actually followed?

Tone Wiley: The best advice I followed was separating myself from those who weren’t willing to work hard. Build a more concrete circle and do things on my own.

Getmybuzzup: Will you be collaborating with any other artists on this project or in the future?

Tone Wiley: Yes most definitely!

Getmybuzzup: Do you think your music is mostly enjoyed more for the beats or for the lyrical flow and content?

Tone Wiley: All of the above haha; but people most definitely gravitate toward my lyricism and content the most part.

Getmybuzzup: What area do you need to improve on in regards to your career? (Example: Better production, Delivery, Stage presence, etc..)

Tone Wiley: Stage presence is definitely something I plan on getting better and better at.

Getmybuzzup: What’s your all-time favorite song?

Tone Wiley: I listen to way too much music. It’s impossible for me to choose just one. That’s a tough question!

Getmybuzzup: In your opinion who is the most influential and successful artist in your genre today and why?

Tone Wiley: In my opinion I would have to say Chance The Rapper. The number of things he achieved without a label is mind blowing. Most of all, the impact he has on his city is even more amazing and important.

Getmybuzzup: Who have been some of your favorite artists that you’ve been able to work with?

Tone Wiley: Hands down my big bro Goldenlord. That’s a true genius right there.

Getmybuzzup: How do you feel about the current state of music?

Tone Wiley: I love it, there’s a lot out there to listen to. There’s all types of sounds, which is why I never understand why people let these select few, new artist ruin their perspective on music. You can choose who you listen to and who you don’t.

Getmybuzzup: What is your main goal as far as music?

Tone Wiley: Be more innovative, and inspiring.

Getmybuzzup: Who would you say your music relates to the most?

Tone Wiley: My culture by default. Truthfully, anyone who wants to hear something genuine and authentic, as well as anyone who’s willing to open their mind, and hear creative substance of all sorts; that’s who my music relates to.

Getmybuzzup: What separates you from other artists? (What’s makes you different?)

Tone Wiley: My originality and authenticity. I make my own music for myself, and never for the sake of being cool or fitting in.

Getmybuzzup: When you’re not in the studio, what do you like to do for fun and relaxation?

Tone Wiley: Create, listen to music and spend time with my family. I also try to interact with my fan base as much as possibly, when I’m not in the studio.

Getmybuzzup: If you could work with any producer who would it be?

Tone Wiley: DJ Premier easily!

Getmybuzzup: What’s the biggest highlight of your career thus far?

Tone Wiley: The ‘Lazarus‘ EP. The feedback and attention motivated me a lot. Truly grateful for the love I’ve received from both fans and other music industry affiliates.

Getmybuzzup: What artist music are you currently a fan of?

Tone Wiley: Kendrick Lamar definitely.

Getmybuzzup: When performing live what are some of the things you do to get the crowd involved?

Tone Wiley: Crowd participation during the hooks. I always make sure I connect with someone in the audience to join along during the hook.

Getmybuzzup: When performing and the crowd is singing along how does that energy make you feel?

Tone Wiley: That’ll forever be unexplainable. Best feeling ever!!

Getmybuzzup: What can we expect from you in the future?

Tone Wiley: Better and better music for sure.

Getmybuzzup: Anything else you wanna add?

Tone Wiley: Thank you for the time, and this opportunity. Truly appreciate it!

Getmybuzzup: Where can the fans check out for your music?

Tone Wiley: I have streaming music on soundcloud, as well as all Tidal and Spotify. Search @tonewiley
