Trae Tha Truth – “Take Me Back” [Audio]

Trae Tha Truth

By Jack Barnes

An honest and compelling storyteller with a uniquely Texan perspective, Trae Tha Truth represents for Houston with his prolific body of work. Shining a light on his past and his community, Trae flashes back with Take Me Back,” his latest single. Enjoy this audio stream below after the jump.

Dropping a conversational flow over a twinkling, nostalgic instrumental, Trae reminisces about his best childhood memories of staying out all night and avoiding the wrath of his grandmother. Sponsored by McDonald’s, who enlisted Trae for their “Unmuted” series to promote his upcoming album Tha Truth Pt. 3 and sponsor several community initiatives, “Take Me Back” paints a compelling portrait of Trae’s community and explains the importance of his neighborhood in his life and to his worldview. “Take Me Back” is currently available gratis with pre-order of Tha Truth Pt. 3along with the massive posse cut I’m On 3.0,” which premiered last week via Billboard. Pre-order Tha Truth Pt. 3

“‘Take Me Back’ was more of a personal record, just me reminiscing about coming up as a child,” explains Trae. “Tha Truth 3 is about my life, it’s gonna give insight on what type of person I am and some of the things I go through. You’ve got the good and the bad–I’ve experienced the bad too. The fact that I overcame it…I’ve been up against giants, but I always stay fighting and here I am now accomplishing greatness. Anything is possible. Having McDonald’s support my music is a dream within itself. Coming up from rap, you don’t really get endorsed, it’s only a chosen few, so to actually one of the chosen ones is amazing. McDonald’s definitely fits my lifestyle and values, just for the fact of us trying to give back to the community. The community is very important–feeding the community, clothing the community, like I do for my holiday Trae Day. It was supposed to be a day that they celebrate for me, but I reversed it and made it a day that we celebrate the city of Houston. The fact that I can go back and put smiles on people’s faces and give them hope, that’s what gives me my energy and my motivation to keep pushing.”

Delving into more personal territory for his ninth solo studio album, Trae returns with Tha Truth Pt. 3, a detailed portrait of the man behind the mic. Featuring an all-star list of guest appearances and production from the likes of Watson The Great, Mook Beatz, Ayo The Producer, and others, Tha Truth Pt. 3 is an epic 18-track effort packed with street wisdom and rich storytelling. The upcoming album boasts the posse cut “I’m On 3.0,” which features appearances from A-Listers like Snoop Dogg, T.I., and Rick Ross alongside quality up-and-comers like G-Eazy, D.R.A.M., Dave East, and Jay-Z’s new favorite rapper Tee Grizzley, established lyricists like Fabolous, Chamillionaire, Curren$y, Styles P, and Royce Da 5’9″. Beyond music, the Texas legend been an active part of his community for years, hosting the annual Trae Day on July 22nd in Houston, which he’s been officially recognized for by the city and has earned sponsorship from McDonald’s for 2017. Tha Truth Pt. 3 hits stores on July 21st via EMPIRE.
