Tuesday Knight on His Inspirations, his New Project

Tuesday Knight

By Jack Barnes

Getmybuzzup:  Tell us a little about yourself?

Tuesday Knight: My name is Shane Jackson; I’m from Westchester New York. I graduated from Cornell in 2013. Before jumping into music full time I was in finance working in Manhattan. Now I rap.

Getmybuzzup: How long have you been in the music industry?

Tuesday Knight: I would say I’ve been in the music industry for about a year now if we’re talking in terms of publicly releasing my music. So I’m pretty new I’d say.

Getmybuzzup: How did you get started in the first place?

Tuesday Knight: I was in love with making music since a very young age. Having two older brothers there was always hip-hop blasting in the house and I got hooked on it early. I used to write songs and perform them at family reunions. I rapped here and there throughout college, but once I graduated I really got more interested in pursuing music fully.

Getmybuzzup: How would you describe your sound?

Tuesday Knight: I would say my sound is very New York, lyrical rap but with catchy soulful beats.

Getmybuzzup: Who are your inspirations in the music industry?

Tuesday Knight: My inspirations in the music business I would have to say are Kanye West, J. Cole, and Jay Z all for different reasons.

Getmybuzzup: What are you currently working on?

Tuesday Knight: I am currently wrapping up my first full length project called “Tuesday Knight LIVE.” Simultaneously, I’m also working on two follow up EP’s in hopes to provide consistent content.

Getmybuzzup: What is the concept behind your latest project?

Tuesday Knight: The concept behind “Tuesday Knight LIVE” is a story of growth and decision-making told through a love story. It starts by speaking on promiscuous ways in a metaphor representing balancing two different worlds, corporate and music, as if they were two different girls. Throughout the album it transitions into choosing one over the other and deciding to do one for the rest of my life.

Getmybuzzup: Any plans on touring to promote your latest project?

Tuesday Knight: Definitely looking to tour to promote my latest project. Have some things in the works and hopefully will have a few shows lined up shortly.

Getmybuzzup: What did you buy with your first check off music?

Tuesday Knight: My first check? I’ll let you know when I start getting paid more than breaking even lol.

Getmybuzzup:  What is the best piece of advice in this business you actually followed?

Tuesday Knight: Best advice I followed is having people you trust around you. Plenty of people will act like they want what’s best for you, it’s your job to know who is genuine and fill your party with them.

Getmybuzzup: Will you be collaborating with any other artists on this project or in the future?

Tuesday Knight: On my current project I have very few features and only one being another rapper, my good friend Big Mont. My main focus was building as much solo content as possible upfront to show what I can do. Going forward I’m looking to collaborate more and experiment with some different sounds.

Getmybuzzup: Do you think your music is mostly enjoyed more for the beats or for the lyrical flow and content?

Tuesday Knight: I think my music is mostly enjoyed for the lyrical aspect. Just the way I rap I try to provide tons of metaphors to open peoples minds and make them think. If you’re a fan of my music it’s because of that. However, I do make sure to have dope beats behind the lyrics to ensure its enjoyable and to make it easier to listen.

Getmybuzzup: What area do you need to improve on in regards to your career? (Example: Better production, Delivery, Stage presence, etc.)

Tuesday Knight: Believe it or not I am probably the shyest rapper ever. I’m super laid back, which you will pick up from my music. I think because of that I could work on my delivery and energy during performances. I’m working on it.

Getmybuzzup: What’s your all-time favorite song?

Tuesday Knight: My all-time favorite song is “Remember the Time” by Michael Jackson.

Getmybuzzup: In your opinion who is the most influential and successful artist in your genre today and why?

Tuesday Knight: If we’re talking most influential you have to go with Kanye West. First with his style of production taking over the rap game then he followed up and made everybody want to dress like him. Everybody had the Polos popping with the backpack. Now everybody is paying thousands for his sneakers. He influences music as well as every other category he touches, all while being himself.

Getmybuzzup: Who have been some of your favorite artists that you’ve been able to work

Tuesday Knight: Favorite artist I’ve worked with has to be Big Mont at the moment. He’s a super dope artist, rap wise and production wise, and makes me have to step my game up.

Getmybuzzup: How do you feel about the current state of music?

Tuesday Knight: I mean I’m not a hater so I’m not going to talk down on other artists today. But I will say I wish it were a little different. I know music is constantly evolving but I feel anytime as a culture you move away from uplifting and positive messages you’re losing the purpose of music.

Getmybuzzup: What is your main goal as far as music?

Tuesday Knight: My main goal for music is to just speak to somebody and inspire people. I’m not about the money or I would have stayed in banking. Just want to be heard.

Getmybuzzup: Who would you say your music relates to the most?

Tuesday Knight: I feel like my music is relatable to a lot of people. I speak on stories of being the nice guy and being turned down by girls, to having to make big decisions and risks in life. I feel a lot of people go through these situations.

Getmybuzzup: What separates you from other artists? (What’s makes you different?)

Tuesday Knight: I would say what separates me from other artists is my detail to the words I’m using. Every word has a specific purpose, I try not to waste any words. But with the super detail in lyrics I like to balance that with
a dope beat to keep them listening. As for as image I feel I’m different as the route I took to get to music. I’d like to show kids you can get straight A’s and still be cool and rap.Tuesday Knight

Getmybuzzup: When you’re not in the studio, What do you like to do for fun and relaxation?

Tuesday Knight: When I’m not in the studio and the weathers nice I love going out boating on the Hudson River, I love the water. If the weather sucks I’m a huge gamer, I have everything from Nintendo Switch to Oculus.

Getmybuzzup: If you could work with any producer who would it be?

Tuesday Knight: If I had to choose a single producer to work with I think I would choose Pharrell or Ryan Leslie. I’m a big fan of both of them.

Getmybuzzup: What is the biggest highlight of your career thus far?

Tuesday Knight: The biggest highlight go my career I would have to say is just the amount of streams my songs get. The numbers from recording always surprises me in my basement.

Getmybuzzup: What artist music are you currently a fan of?

Tuesday Knight: Currently I am big on Masego, Anderson .Pak, and Khalid at the moment.

Getmybuzzup: When performing live what are some of the things you do to get the crowd involved?

Tuesday Knight: I try to talk to the crowd as if I’m talking to them one on one. I like to explain the situation behind the song and see if anybody has been in that situation before. Connecting before a song encourages people to listen.

Getmybuzzup: When performing and the crowd is singing along how does that energy make you feel?

Tuesday Knight: As I’m relatively new there hasn’t been too many occasions when crowds are rapping my lyrics. Maybe a few people here and there but nothing crazy. I’m hoping to get there soon though.

Getmybuzzup: What can we expect from you in the future?

Tuesday Knight: In the future I’m planning on dropping consistent material, working with different artists, and experimenting with some different sounds.

Getmybuzzup: Where can the fans check out for your music?
