Averaging over 23 points per game early in the NBA season, Victor Oladipo is one of the league’s most talented young players. Unlike most of his teammates and rivals, however, Victor has a hidden talent: singing. Emotionally recounting a bumpy relationship, Victor shows his range on “Unfollow,” his latest video. Holding his own in a duet with Eric Bellinger, Victor showcases his golden pipes in a tale of modern love gone wrong. In the video, premiered by Complex, Victor romances a lady until their relationship turns sour, and when she keeps calling him after they’ve broken up, Victor is forced to draw a line in the sand: he unfollows her on all social media platforms. Enjoy this video stream below after the jump.
“Unfollow” is a highlight form Songs For You, Victor’s debut EP, which also features an appearance from 2 Chainz. Featuring diverse tracks like the Soul throwback and Donny Hathaway homage “Song For You,” the catchy ’90s-style funk of “Still Want You,” and the inspirational anthem “Rope a Dope,” Songs For You is an uncommonly charming and refined album for those who wish that modern R&B singers would focus more on melody than rhythm.
With an expressive, honeyed singing voice honed by years of singing in church and college talent shows, Songs For You proves that Victor Oladipo is no mere dilettante in the R&B space, but a charismatic and versatile performer Born to Nigerian immigrant parents and raised just outside of Washington, DC in Maryland, Victor Oladipo would sing in church at 7 or 8 years of age at the request of his mother. Oladipo made his name as a basketball player when he attended Indiana University, where he led his college team to Big Ten championship and a #1 seed in the NCAA Tournament, eventually becoming Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year. Finally, Oladipo decided to forego his senior season at Indiana and was second overall by the Orlando Magic in the 2013 NBA Draft. Victor is now the leading scorer for the Indiana Pacers. Following the circulation of this TMZ video of Oladipo performing R. Kelly‘s “I Believe I Can Fly,” the basketball star is making moves to catch the attention of fans everywhere with more than just his stellar skills in the paint.
