White Dave shares his latest project, In Living Color, a true “start-to-finish” listen that positions the Richmond, CA rapper even more in his element. Dave continues to defy labels while also catching your attention–and your ear. The project features notable artists such as Offset Jim, ALLBLACK, Katori Walker, J. Doe, and more.
The collective recording process was a change of pace for White Dave, who frequently writes and records within his own space. However, In Living Color was recorded predominantly at the iconic 1500 or Nothin’ studios. The Inglewood studio and its team are behind hit songs from Jay Z, Bruno Mars, B.o.B. and more. “I had a great experience recording at 1500 or Nothin’,” says Dave. “It was refreshing to get out of my traditional recording environment and inspiring to work in such a legendary space.”
True to its name, In Living Color is a vivid and multifaceted compilation. The project is dynamic with songs like “Goodbye” and “Weekend” that require the volume up and car windows down, while “Tell Me” and “Clarity” offer a more introspective appeal.
“My brother Keenan and I came up with the name In Living Color because this recording process was so different for me,” says Dave. “Here I was in a new city, recording with a new sound, in a new space, with new audio, new collaborators and a new engineer…’in living color’ became an expression that symbolized all the new vibes and energy that brought about the creation of the project.”
Bay Area fans can join White Dave on Friday, March 6th for the In Living Color release party from 7pm – 11pm at 200 3rd St, #300 in Oakland.
