Retired St. Joseph Police Department Detective Tim Schweder discusses investigating the disappearance and murder of 19-year-old Micki Jo West. On Sept. 11, 1986, an unsigned letter addressed to police was discovered at a shopping mall in Kansas City. The anonymous author wrote that they knew who was responsible for Micki Jo’s murder.

Missing Teen Kept Hammer In Her Purse For Protection
In the fall of 1979, 19-year-old Micki Jo West left her home in the early morning hours to go to work and never returned. Before she vanished, she told her best friend and sister-in-law, Ruth Ann West, that she kept a hammer in her purse in case Ruth Ann’s husband, Marvin Irvin, confronted her.
