YFN Lucci
By Jack Barnes
Quickly becoming one of Atlanta’s brightest stars, YFN Lucci has not forgotten his origins. Coming off the massive success of the June James-produced single “Everyday We Lit,” YFN Lucci’s Long Live Nut EP is an homage to his late mentor Nut, who died before he could witness the Think It’s a Game artist’s rise to success. The cover features a powerful photograph of YFN Lucci with Nut’s son, bringing flowers to his father’s grave while a faded photograph of Nut looks on. Premiered by Billboard and releasing on Nut’s birthday (April 4th), Long Live Nut features Rick Ross, Boosie Badazz, Lil Durk, PNB Rock, Dreezy, and YFN Trae Pound. Enjoy this audio stream below after the jump.
YFN Lucci explains his relationship with his friend Nut: “Nut was my big homie, he meant the world to me. None of my success would be possible without him. He introduced me to Fly, who signed me to his Think Its a Game label. I met Nut 5 years ago through a friend. He was big in the streets–he the type of man you needed to link with when you came to Atlanta. He heard my music and said, ‘I’m gonna make sure you get on.’ When he asked who my favorite rappers were, I named Lil Wayne, Meek Mill and Drake. He said, ‘You’re harder than all of them. I listen to only you and Boosie.’ He started taking me with to the club every night. He would introduce me to everyone and get my music played. He was killed January 10th, 2015. It was right after I dropped my mixtape in mid-December. He got killed right before I had my first real show.”
To celebrate the EP release, YFN Lucci is sharing the euphoric, Marc Diamond-directed visual for “Everday We Lit,” premiered by The FADER. Following the military themed “Ammunition” visual, “Everyday We Lit” shows the lavish escapades of YFN Lucci and PnB Rock, who trade verses while surrounded by scantily-clad women on a yacht. Interspersed with shots of YFN Lucci celebrating with the Miami Pork ‘n’ Beans community, “Everyday We Lit” further cements the Atlanta artist’s status as a local hero and a rising star in the rap game.
As a reward for years spent building an organic fanbase, YFN Lucci earned his first major hit in 2016 with the June James-produced hit “Key to the Streets,” a critical and commercial success. Featuring a high-profile assist from Quavo on the hook and first verse, “Key To The Streets” built momentum throughout the year, accumulating over 48 million YouTube views, peaking at #70 at the Billboard charts, and reaching #1 on Mediabase‘s urban airplay chart. After a year of breakout success, two smash hit singles with June James, and collaborations with artists such as Lil Wayne, 2 Chainz, Migos, Rich Homie Quan, and Lil Durk, YFN Lucci will continue to make his big homie Nut proud in 2017. Long Live Nut is now available for stream and purchase.
