Young Dolph

By Jack Barnes

Building up momentum with a steady stream of quality visuals and strong projects, Young Dolph is one of the best and most popular independent rappers in the game today. On “Play Wit Yo Bitch,” the Zaytoven-produced closing track of his latest mixtape, Gelato, Dolph declared himself the unquestioned King of Memphis, taking vicious shots at crosstown rival Yo Gotti. The video, released last night, provides more background about the beef, from Yo Gotti’s attempts to sign Dolph to his about-face when Dolph started getting popular on his own. Employing a Yo Gotti look-alike to recreate scenes from the past, Young Dolph provides a humorous look at his conflict with “Ho Gotti” and illustrates legitimate reasons for beef between the two Bluff City rivals. Enjoy this audio stream below after the jump.

“Play Wit Yo Bitch” is only the latest in an epic string of high-quality visuals from Dolph. Earlier this month, Dolph rocked Versace snow boots in the NOISEY premiered “Whole Lot,” unveiled the Ten Baller Commandments on “Baller Alert,” saluted the Black Mafia Family on Meech,” and celebrated the release of his latest mixtape with the opulent video for “Gelato,” which has earned over 1.6 million views on YouTube since its release. The videos all hail from Dolph’s popular and acclaimed Gelato mixtape, which was praised by Stereogum, who said, “Dolph’s new mixtape, Gelato, is a ridiculously solid piece of trap music… There’s no thirst in him. His shit-talk feels effortless. And that’s why he’s winning.” Gelato capitalized on the momentum from Dolph’s triumphant 2016, highlighted by the three mixtapes Rich Crack BabyBo$$e$ and $hooter$, and King of Memphis, named by XXL as one of the Best Projects of the Year. Respected in the trap world, Young Dolph has also collaborated with the likes of Gucci Mane, T.I., Boozie Badazz, 21 Savage, 2 Chainz, and more during his career. The 11-track Gelato mixtape is now available for purchase on iTunes and stream on SoundCloud.
