Yung Mal is Too Busy to Take Your Call 🚫📱
Zig-zagging through trap instrumentals with the precision of a jazz drummer, Yung Mal has the freshest flow in Atlanta’s Zone 6. Too busy stacking racks to take frivolous phone calls, Yung Mal ignores “100 Missed Calls“ in his brand new video. Complete with an atmospheric production from Pyrex Whippa, Mal touts his hard-earned wealth, humbled–but not surprised–by how far he’s come: “Drip, and my wrist got a whole brick/Hop in a foreign do tricks/Look at this sh*t/We was so broke i ain’t think we would ever get fix.” The ShotByWolf-directed video finds Mal flexing in grainy close up, as he ruminates in his Zone 6 crib, chiefing blunts and doing his dance. “100 Missed Calls” is the latest video from 6 Rings, his brand new project, following the Lil Keed and Lil Gotit-featuring “Shut Up” (556k views on YouTube) and the Doe Boy-co-starring “Blake Griffin” (368k views). “Shut Up” is currently included on Spotify’s Most Necessary playlist, while “Blake Griffin” and fellow tape highlight “Goin’ Up” appear on the service’s Get Turnt playlist. Created in collaboration with rising producer Pyrex Whippa, 6 Rings is an excellent showcase for Mal’s effortlessly intricate rhymes, which weave within swinging hi-hats and entrancing flute loops. The 24-year-old rapper is an expert at finding unique rhythmic pockets within the beat, frequently messing with listener’s expectations of meter and the bar line. A favorite of the new generation of Southern rappers (DaBaby, Young Thug, Offset, Lil Gotit, Dreamville), the Baltimore-born Pyrex is a perfect fit for Mal’s style, offering a diverse variety woozy trap instrumentals on which the young rapper can perfect his flexes. Featuring appearances from Lil Keed, Lil Gotit, Doe Boy, and Mal’s frequent rhyme partner Lil Quill, 6 Rings is available everywhere via Alamo Records.
6 Rings is Yung Mal’s first full-length project since last summer’s release of Iceburg, his debut solo mixtape. The mixtape hosted a long line of successful singles, including the Gunna-featuring “War,“ the Gucci Mane featuring, Complex–
