Getmybuzzup: Tell us a little about yourself?
Haph Breed: My name is Haph Breed. I am a recording artist, a producer and I run an independent record label named PBP Recordings.
Getmybuzzup: How long have you been in the music industry?
Haph Breed: 18 years
Getmybuzzup: How did you get started in the first place?
Haph Breed: I started out working in various studios.
Getmybuzzup: How would you describe your sound?
Haph Breed: My sound is a big ol’ gumbo pot of different genres combined. My sound is melodic and eclectic. But I always keep it hip hop no matter what.
Getmybuzzup: Who are your inspirations in the music industry?
Haph Breed: Herb Albert, Quincy Jones and Berry Gordy.
Getmybuzzup: What are you currently working on?
Haph Breed: I am currently working on Sabotaj’s debut album “The Legend That Never Was”, I am producing the entire project. I am also currently working on a new project for The San Gabriel Valley Mosquito & Vector Control District as my affable alter ego Metamorphosis. The last project I did for the public health department did very well and it was played on KROQ’s Kevin and Bean Show, and Big Boi’s Neighborhood. An article was published about the project in Newsweek and it will be advertised on NBC prime time in June and July. I am also finishing up my 3rd album “Tha Masta” that will be released in 2019.
Getmybuzzup: What is the concept behind your latest project?
Haph Breed: My latest project is called “Ira & Evan: The Legacy Continues”. This beautiful creative project was named after my mother Ira who passed away on 12/8/04, and my youngest brother Evan who passed away on 4/21/16 at the young age of 27. I wanted dearly to help carry the legacy of my mother and brother by producing an album about life, love, and family. This is an album for all ages and it is dedicated to all the families of the world.
Getmybuzzup: Any plans on touring to promote your latest project?
Haph Breed: I’m still heavily active in the studio working on other projects right now. So there are no plans of touring at the moment. But I will be back on the road as soon I wrap up these projects.
Getmybuzzup: How difficult is it running an indy record label and being an artist / producer?
Haph Breed: It is extremely difficult sometimes. There are days where you just want to record and just be creative, but the business side of things has to get done because it is a priority.
Getmybuzzup: What do you enjoy the most the business side or the artist side of things?
Haph Breed: I enjoy both sides of the game, but I enjoy the artist side of things the most.
Getmybuzzup: What did you buy with your first check off music?
Haph Breed: A car.
Getmybuzzup: What is the best piece of advice in this business you actually followed?
Haph Breed: Work and study. Work hard and study the game. Know your musical history.
Getmybuzzup: Will you be collaborating with any other artists on this project or in the future?
Haph Breed: Yes. On my 3rd album I will be collaborating with Sabotaj, Onwon Kills, [ari], and a hip hop legend that is well respect in the hip hop community. I can’t disclose his name yet, it’s a surprise. Stay tuned…
Getmybuzzup: Do you think your music is mostly enjoyed more for the beats or for the lyrical flow and content?
Haph Breed: Wow that’s a tough one, because I am producer and an M.C. I strongly try to perfect both titles. And all the songs I create are very conceptual. But judging from what I’ve been told from some people I would say lyrical flow and content.
Getmybuzzup: What area do you need to improve on in regards to your career? (Example: Better production, Delivery, Stage presence, etc..)
Haph Breed: There is always room for improvement as an artist and an entrepreneur, but right now I would say stage presence.
Getmybuzzup: What’s your all-time favorite song?
Haph Breed: “Send In The Clowns”
Getmybuzzup: In your opinion who is the most influential and successful artist in your genre today and why?
Haph Breed: Kendrick Lamar. He became successful without incorporating temporary trends in his music, he has carved his own musical lane and he has kept a sense of consciousness in his music. He has also globally brung back attention to the west coast.
Getmybuzzup: Who have been some of your favorite artists that you’ve been able to work with?
Haph Breed: I would say Sabotaj. He’s has been doing his thing on the underground west coast circuit for a while now. I’m always routing for the underdog.
Getmybuzzup: How do you feel about the current state of music?
Haph Breed: Music is in a state of conscience urgency. I believe there is a need for a collaboration between mainstream artists to come together and campaign against subject such as police brutality, gun control, social injustice, racial prejudice, and political corruption.
Getmybuzzup: What is your main goal as far as music?
Haph Breed: To preserve hip hop and bring it back to its purest form. To bring back more substance in hip hop music. We need more messages in the music with meaning.
Getmybuzzup: Who would you say your music relates to the most?
Haph Breed: If I were to say who my music relates to I would say J. Cole. He produces his own material and he’s an M.C., I can feel that he truly understands both worlds. It’s a special bond and connection that you have with music as an artist.
Getmybuzzup: What separates you from other artists? (What’s makes you different?
Haph Breed: My music has a lot of emotions and feelings. I am a musical chameleon and I can adapt to many styles.
Getmybuzzup: When you’re not in the studio, What do you like to do for fun and relaxation?
Haph Breed: Spend time with my children, go to amusement parks, and travel.
Getmybuzzup: If you could work with any producer who would it be?
Haph Breed: Dr. Dre, DJ Quik, D.J. Premier.
Getmybuzzup: What’s the biggest highlight of your career thus far?
Haph Breed: Working with The Greater Los Angeles County Vector Control, on a project called “The Mosquito Rap”. It is doing very well in the world of health and education.
Getmybuzzup: What artist music are you currently a fan of?
Haph Breed: PRhyme, J. Cole, Logic
Getmybuzzup: When performing live what are some of the things you do to get the crowd involved?
Haph Breed: Make eye contact with the crowd, show them some love by giving some high fives. I like to get my groove on with the crowd.
Getmybuzzup: When performing and the crowd is singing along how does that energy make you feel?
Haph Breed: Like your creative goal has been reached. You have touched the people with your music. It’s a surreal feeling.
Getmybuzzup: What can we expect from you in the future?
Haph Breed: Expect my 3rd album “Tha Masta” to be released in 2019. Sabotaj is currently finishing up his debut album “The Legend That Never Was” which we will be releasing sometime this year on PBP recordings.
